1988 Targa Turbo Look Carrera? What is it worth?
I went to view a local car for sale advertised as a turbo targa 1988. Turns out it is a targa, turbo look Carrera. Did they make this? I am assuming someone did a conversion on it. Now that we know they made one what is it worth 80,000 miles Whtie on red leather, with sport seats.

Yip:
The Turbo Look Carrera uses the normally aspirated 3.2 liter motor from the narrow body Carrera with no performance changes, but then used the wide body Turbo body with the Turbo suspension and brakes.
If you can find the option codes sticker (usually located on the underside of the front trunk and in the owners manual ), you'll want to confirm that there is an option code M491 listed, which is the factory's option number for the Turbo look Carreras.
It's be written in several Porsche books that the Turbo look cars could be priced with a 10% premium over a similar narrow body car. But, since these cars are aging and it's very hard to find two cars of the same age that are in the same condition, each car's condition will really determine the selling price.
Hope this helps,
Jay

Hi Jay,
I think you'd agree those books are dated...
I would say 10% is way off. If a normal car was worth $20K, you'd have to ad a lot more than $2K for a factory wide body IMO...25% wouldn't be unreasonable (to start).

AHEDAU: I'll agree most printed material on 911's is dated. I guess my point was that these cars are aging a lot and it's really hard to find two 911's for sale that are almost identical in condition, mileage, age, etc.
Finding a premium percentage to apply to most cars for the M491 option might be harder and harder as these cars age...

IMHO, there's nothing quite like having a healthy 3.2 “sheep in wolf's clothing”, eh?
