Hi there, I have a 1978 911 sc and last year had to have my transmission rebuilt. It is a 5 speed manual transmission . The problem that I have now is that the mechanic that worked on the transmission removed the release fork without marking it to make sure that it goes in the proper position. Tried to mate the transmission to the engine and there was no way that the release fork would go in the throwout bearing groove. I look at many different websites to find out the angles between release fork and clutch release lever with no success. So looking from the top of the shaft, let say that the release fork is at 0 degree angle what is the angle for the clutch release lever and the angle for adjusting lever? The transmission is a model 915.
Hopefully somebody is going to be able to help me out.

I don’t think you need to mark anything. The release lever goes back on after the transmission and engine are mated. You are free to rotate the fork to engage with the throw out bearing so you can mate the gearbox with the engine.
Then install the release lever onto the splines and adjust per the manual.

The clutch release lever does not have a spline with teeth and the only thing that is holding it in place is a split pin..
Could you, please explain to me how to adjust per manual?

yes it does Boris, you may be thinking about the helper arm . I have a 78 also and it is exactly as Mark describes.
section 301 has some excellent pictures of all this and 301-3 shows how to adjust it all

Is the clutch release lever supposed to spin on the bell crank?
Thee are three seals that are supposed to be on the bell crank, but I can not see where are they supposed to go?

it is very important to not that the roll Pin mentioned in Marks post is only to stop it from dropping vertically off the shaft.. the cluth release lever (6) MUST rotate freely on the shaft (19).... mine got seized on there and caused all kinds of issues with the clutch adjustment.. I eventually had to to drill that roll pin out (5).. I lubed the shaft (19)with spline grease and put new seals on. Often the seals get damaged or are missing, water gets into the shaft and seizes the clutch release lever ( 6 ) onto the clever shaft (19)
Many leave the roll pin out as i did and it has been fine.
Thank you all for the information. The clutch release lever was not moving on the bell crank at all. I removed the solid pin and cleaned the bore and the bell crank and when I put it back I was not aware that it is supposed to move around on the bell crank. Also thank you for letting me know where the seals are supposed to go.

i think he is mixing up the clutch release lever and helper arm , but i get what he is saying. Exactly what happened to me. it got so seized on i thought it was supposed to be that way.
