I’m looking for information about 906, Carrera 6, 911R engines or clone engines. I think I might have a clone engine.
The 911R 2.0L engine produced 210hp @ 8000 rpm first built in 1967. According to Bruce Anderson, Porsche only built 22 911R. Since these cars competed for several years both here and in Europe, Porsche obviously built a lot of spare engines.
In the photo you can see one of the 911R pistons with the deep valve relief from the engine and a pair of mechanical tensioners.
I'm still researching the background of the engine to determine if it might actually be an original and not a clone. The engine I have is a 1969 E case with the 911R parts. The PO estimated it has been in storage over 10 years. Porsche originally built these engines for the 906 and Carrera 6 and later adapted them for the 911R.
If anyone has information regarding the 906, Carrera 6, 911R engines please contact me. I would like to determine if this engine could be an original. I’ll be selling the engine once I get a better idea of it’s value.
I have a set of 2.0 heads with 911S specs that came with the engine but were in a separate box that I posted here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=158459 . I’m wondering if these could be 911R heads and not 911S.

That pistons looks like the Cosworth pistions we used in the 2.0 and 2.2 race motors.
I think the real R and ST motors were all 2-ring pistons. But I could be wrong.

Well, I think you have about 10% inaccuracy on that one !
I'm very surprised that Mr. Anderson can be as far as 10% off on this particular subject.
According to what I know about my favorite (by far) 911 of all time, the right count is 24, ..not 22!
The racing dept of the factory did built 4 prototypes (R1 to R4), and then Baur did build a "serie" of 20.
I think the correct list of the # of the 24 chassis of The "R" is:
305876 (R1)
306681 (R2)
307670 (R4)
307671 (R3)
118 9 9001
118 9 9002
118 9 9003
118 9 9004
118 9 9005
118 9 9006
118 9 9007
118 9 9008
118 9 9009
118 9 9010
118 9 9011
118 9 9012
118 9 9013
118 9 9014
118 9 9015
118 9 9016
118 9 9017
118 9 9018
118 9 9019
118 9 9020
..Now, if any of you find one of these, please, let me know, I would be very pleased to.. !! (Joke)
Note: 118 9 9005, that had originaly the German license plate "S-K2403" is probably the most famous of all the"R", is now part of the Collier collection.
