Default Nice Drives in Northern NJ?

This is a little off topic, but does anyone have any suggestions for where one could go on a nice, spirited drive in the Morris, Somerset or Hunterdon county areas? It looks like it will be a nice weekend here in NJ and I wanted to find a place to take the old lady out.

Thanks!

Sure do! Here are a couple of my favorites...

1. You can take Rt. 23 North from 287...it's about 5 miles past Boonton. Take Route 23 North all the way north to High Point. If it's early in the day on the weekend, there is a great litte cafe/breakfast place called (I think) The Sunshine Cafe on the right when you get into the Sussex County area. Continue north to High Point State Park and stop there to admire the view. This is also a good place for pictures. Then, continue north towards Port Jervis, NY (not far from High Point), and follow signs for "Upper Delaware River Scenic Drive, " or "Hawks Nest." When you get to Hawks Nest, you'll know it...a windy road along a cliff overlooking the Delaware River. There are nice cutouts/scenic overlooks along the left side...catch them on the way back! Now, you can just go back from here, or mix it up with more driving towards Bear Mountain or West Point, or even 7 Lakes Drive down back into NJ...you'll have to consult a map for those!

2. Second trip is Route 202S to Flemington, follow to circle. Follow signs for Frenchtown...follow road approx 15 miles to Frenchtown. At "T", make a left to take you towards the PA bridge...as the road bends before the bridge , there is a little luncheonette on the left (Frenchtown Cafe)...great place for breakfast (try "The Mess"). Then afterward, take the brodge across to PA. At stop sign, turn left. You will be driving along the DE River (on your left, going south)...keep making all of your turns so that you stay along the river, or as clos as possible...it's easy to follow. There is a really nice vineyard halfway there called Sandcastle...nice folks, a good tour, they grow their own grapes! Check that out, but beware of the dirt road. Anyway, going south, you will eventually bump into New Hope, PA, a mecca for all things wierd or artsy. Very cool little town...a favorite of motoring enthusiasts, especially of the two-wheeled variety! Great food, again, nice views. On the way back, you can just hop on Rt. 202 North and cut time back into NJ, and then take 202 back to Somerville and 287.

Enjoy!
