Default 911 SC Clutch & Chain Tensioner Age Deterioration?

Hi,

I am hoping to get some expert opinions.

I am looking at 83 911 SC with 152,000 miles. I was told by the seller (with documentation) that both the clutch and chain tensioners were replaced at 127,000 miles, but 25 years ago. Having said that, does “age” play a factor with possible deterioration?

Any expert insight would be most helpful.

Thank you.

. It shouldn’t. I have the original chain tensioners and they are 42 years old. I have the tensioner collars on them. My clutch was last replaced around 1989, so it is 32 years old. My SC has 217k miles.

i would say no .
i had my engine out and measured the clutch . Based on my current wear rate im expecting the clutch to last another 42 years.

I'd be more concerned if those 25,000 miles driven over the last 25 years were early on, and the car has been sitting a lot lately.

I agree with all the advice so far. If you do get the car, consider updating to the hydraulic tensioners. Can be done with engine installed. One less thing to worry about.

These are great 911’s, as I guess you have surmised. I believe their stature and appreciation is only going to grow.
