'80 911 SC Tires not flush
I'm wondering what it takes to get the rear wheels/tires to be flush with the outer edge of the body work. The car is stock but it was optioned originally with the turbo style body so the tires are an inch or two inside the body. It just doesn't look as good as it could.
What are my options?
Thanks,
Nixter

Ok, i found some spacers on ebay, I'll have to go home and check the exact size I need. It looks like anything over 1" requires bolt extenders and the spacers with extenders aren't cheap! $250 on ebay.

Thanks for the tip Noel. This isn't my car but is soon to be so I really don't know anything about it except that it's totally stock, (and factory wide body). What would the originals wheels have been? Can you often trade wheels if they are in good condition?
Thanks,

The original wheels on a 1980 SC were 15" ATS Cookie cutters, although it is extremely unusual to see those wheels on an SC. The 16" X6 front and 7" wide rear Fuchs were the optional wheel that most cars were delivered with. Look at my Aviator for an example of 16" fuchs. I actually moved my 7" rears to the front and bought a pair of 8" wide rears. A reasonable price for a pair of nice 8X16 Fuchs is about $600-800.
BTW, THere was not Factory turbo-look option in 1980. The turbo-look cars didn't start until 1984. If your has turbo flairs then they were added later.

The rear of a 930 hub is different than a 911 sc. I have the car and the rear has its own type of spacer. You will need a spacer even though you get a 8 inch wheel. Check in the Excellence magazine there are pletty of parts shop that can help you. I suggest vertex they have low prices.

Hmm, interesting! Well I know the original owner from Cali and this is how he bought the thing new back in 1980. Not sure what to think. It seems I have the optional 16's with the Fuchs. I don't have the car right now but maybe Noel you would know how much distance there is between the optional 16 x 7 rears and the turbo flairs? I think I might go the spacer route because if I was going to flip for new wheels I'd probably go with a different style alltogether.

The first thing I would recomend is do some research into the car. I have heard of some early cars with the turbo look from the factory, but I believe they are very rare and kinda urban legend sort of thing. I would first get the car and see exactly what wheels and what suspension you have. Its hard to give alternatives without knowing exactly what youre working with. I think yo might just consider getting four new wheels, the tubo cars look great with 17 inch wheels, and it gives you more options for brake upgrades. Plus its hard to say how much longer the tire companies will support 16 inch sizes with their highest performance tires. Just some things to think about,
