Has anyone made the switch from a 911 SC to cabriolet to a 964 cabriolet? I'm thinking of making the switch soon and I'd like to hear from folks that have made the switch.
Until mid-April I had an SC cabriolet and 2010 Boxster S. Another driver pulled out in front of me while I was taking my son to school in the 987 and the car was a total loss. I've decided to move to one Porsche (garage space) and am concerned about the safety of the SC. We were moving about 55 mph when we hit the other car and walked away without any life-threatening injuries. If we had been in the SC, I'm not sure we would have been so fortunate. I've considered moving to a 997.2 cabriolet, but during my 987 ownership, I test drove several 997s and always walked away realizing that I enjoy 987 platform more than the 997. For reasons that are hard to understand but likely understood by members of this board, I enjoy the SC more than the 987. So, I'm thinking that a 964 might be the best compromise between safety and the thrill of the SC. Insights from anyone that has made a similar move will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the 964 retains the charm of the classic 911 with modern refinement and creature comforts. The tub is also significantly stiffer; the solidity reminds me of our old W210 Merc. I would go with a Targa before a cab but that's subjective. The toughest part will be finding a nice 964 and then competing with the dozens of other buyers.

Are most of the 964 cabs fitted with Tiptronic? Over the years it often seems to me that most 964 Targas that are for sale have Tips, I would think the cabs would be the same. Just something else to keep in mind, 5-spds might be kind of rare.

the 964? ....... overpriced. overcomplicated, overweight. YMMV.
due diligence definitely required during a purchase. best to buy one that originally came with head gaskets ...... > late '91?
