Post 76 Gen. Light

Yet another question about my new/used car.I started the car yesterday morning and the generator light stayed on.Turned the car off then on again the car was dead,but after a few seconds the car started fine but the gen light stayed on.Any ideas on this one.Thanks again

Steve,

I don't know which car you are referring to but if you have the early style alternator it could be the external voltage regulator, or the alternator has failed, last, (and least likely) the fan belt is off or broken. BTW, with a failed alternator your car will still start and run until the battery is drained.....then..nothing.

Try a voltmeter to check the voltage with the car running and see if the Alt/reg are working.
