Default European gas prices- what are you paying ?

Premium gas on Maui is now averaging $2.60 a gallon, we are used to paying some of the highest prices in the US but I was wondering if some of the European drivers would tell us what they are paying in their respective countries. I saw a news story that said Italy has some of the highest prices in Europe and are paying $5.50 for regular gas. Just Wondering..

I pay 3.87 pounds per gallon for 98 Octane here in England. Nearly seven bucks!!

Just got back from a visit with friends in Boston MA, and couldn't stop laughing that they complain about the price of petrol!!! Great big V8's sat with the engines ticking over on the drive for 20 minutes in the morning just to get the cabin warm!!! Noone over here could afford to do that.

You Yanks don't realise how lucky you are

I pay around £0.78 per litre in the UK (£3.54/gallon) which I guess comes out at around $6.50 a gallon, and it hurts!

Hi,

Found some prices on what Gas costs in Denmark, where my family lives. Now notice these prices are in DK Kroner and is per liter. So an average price for Self Services 95 Octane is 8.43 kr/liter -> 30.35 kr/gallon (I used approx 3.6 liter/gallon) => $5.01 at the current exchange rate.

Now Denmark is taxing gas really high not to mention the sales tax (25%) and the car tax (180%).

Hi,

Now that I think about it the Full Service isn't really Full Service in Denmark. I don't think that even exists. What I meant was that Full Service is a service station with attendend (sp?) and Self Service is an un-attended service station.

Full service in Denmark , where i llive, is that you pay at a counter in the store, where Self service is that you pay by creditcart at the pump.

F.i. My '79SC only runs about 6 kilometer on a liter off gas when driving inspired. At a gas prize at about €1.10 / L its €0,183 /km or €0,30 / Mile (1.6km)

Thats $0.35 every mile only in GAS

And the prices on the cars is about 3 times higher that in Germany, due to 180% extra tax on cars. That means' a brand new BOXTER cost Kr.900.000,- ($144.000) vs. in Germany It cost Kr.300.000 ($48.000).

So Don't complain Over There.

About $5.38 a gallon for super (93 US octane) here in Stuttgart. The Shell V-Power stuff (94 US octane) is $5.60.. ouch.

On base we pay $2.00. We get coupons and can use them in Germany and the Netherlands at any Esso, and Aral and BPs on the autobahn.

The price of fuel in Europe has NO relation to the cost of fuel in the US, because most of the higher prices in Europe is taxes.

I did some digging the last time this topic came up, and found this on a Canadian petrolium industry web site:

Gasoline costs per liter are fairly flat, but the the rest of the world charges 2 to 8 times more taxes on it.

California's higher gas prices comes in part from this as well. Part of it is Oil companies screwing us.

Here in Hong Kong. About HK$ 10.5 per liter = US$ 6.11 per imperial gallon ( or about 5.38 per US gallon)
About half is govt taxes.
