- S03 pole position

- Rennline Pedal set (with dead pedal)

I'd like to do the following not necessarily in order

1) Driver ed
2) Chip
3) exahust
4) suspention

For #1 I am a member of the local PCA and will check with them for the next avaliable.

2) Everybody swears by this Steve Wong chip.... If I get it what else do I need to do? Can I put it on myself? What if I then decide to go for a free-flow muffler (BTW what is this exaclty?). Will I need to have the chip reprogrammed?

3) Can I get a dual out and no premuffler? what does the premuffler do? What is a free-flow exhaust? Will I pass the state emissions? How much will these cost?

4) A set of Blistein will set me back $1,200.... that's quite a lot.. I think I am going to wait a little bit on this... (it's not as if my car is that bad as it is...)

Anyway thanks again for your inputs!!!!!

#1 upgrade is the nut behind the wheel (you)

to #2 - yes, easy to do - do the sport exhaust first - then get Steve to send you a chip based on your mods and octane availability - he programs it -

#3 yes - should have no trouble with emissions and possible to do with a cat still on (dansk also makes a sport cat - less restrictive)

Don't forget some pagid pads if you are on the track at all - the orange's don't squeak that bad!

Bilstein sports will make a heck of a difference, and lowering the car to at least Euro height. I've never had success with a short shift kit...

If you are looking for some 7x9x16's, I'm selling mine for 8x9x17 track wheels. PM me if you are interested.

absolutely, the best mods are

seat time
more seat time
much more seat time

preferably with instruction from someone who knows what a 911 can do!

www.shox.com
Bilsteins are 450 for all 4. Slap whoever told you 1200 unless they are coilovers

$1200 for a set of Bilsteins!!!!

Someone's gettin hosed. The inserts have street prices under $500 /set. Installation is a breeze.

Suspension upgrades are the best bang-for-buck performance.

I agree with Chuck.

I just purchased a set of 4 Bilsteins (HD front, SP rear) from SHOX.com including shipping $468.00.

Are those shifters really THAT much better? I'd love a driving impression compared to standard '73+ 915 shifters.

Thanks...

Yes, those shifters are that much better.

Assuming your car didn't come totally fresh, my list would be:

1. Tires
2. Shocks
3. Wevo shifter

If your car has decent shocks and tires then I suspect the wevo shifter would be the single biggest affordable upgrade. My JRZ double adjustable coilovers were an even bigger difference, but then they had better be...

The wevo is much more precise and rigid. If I push the stick side to side while in gear there is virtually zero free play. Much easier to shift, much better feel. I improved the shifting of my 915 twice- first, I did the wevo shifter, then I did a full rebuild plus an internal wevo gateshift. I'd say the improvement I got from the shifter alone was almost equal to the other two improvements put together, but you can imagine how much less the shifter cost...

As much Driver Ed as you can manage. that will point you to the upgrades you'll appreciate most.

In golf they say " you can't buy a swing".

Truer words have couldn't have been written. I question all of these people that spend a ton of money on upgrades when they don't/can't even drive a stock 911 to it's capability.

Porsche engineers had their **** together when they designed the 911. Someone that knows how to drive a 911 can take a stock 911 and run circles around someone with a bunch of upgrades that thinks they know how to drive a 911.
