Default My new ('86) 911 Targa

Hi all,

I posted recently that my wife gave me a surprise gift of a 911 as a wedding present . Well, last Thurs. we flew to San Jose and drove to the Carmel area on Friday to pick up the car and drive it back (I didn't sleep thurs. night). Car performed great on the 1100 mile + return trip. Spent day 1 driving down the coast on Highway 1 (awesome) before heading east. I-40 in eastern CA is an AWFUL road. Surface feels like washboard from all the truck traffic.

I've dreamed of owning a 911 since I was a youngster and am thrilled. I didn't expect my wife to like the car much, but she loves it and unfortunately wants to drive it....

The Car:
- 1986 911 Targa
- factory LSD
- factory short shift kit
- 127500 miles when purchased (almost 129000 now...)
- interior and exterior in great shape
- burns very very little oil
- no smoke on start-up
- 16" fuch's
- full tan colored leather interior (dash and door panels included). A bit of warping on dash, but no cracks or tears.
- Weltmeister performance chip (have original also).

Problems:
- slight pull to the left on hard acceleration. Goes back right when the accelerator is released. Tires show no uneven wear (suspension problem? maybe worn out bushings?). I have little mechanical ability but there's a nice group of local 911 owners who do all the work on their cars so I plan to learn as much as possible. Have access to factory manuals but will buy Bentley manual soon. Ordered 101 911 projects today.
- Occasional idle surge of a couple of hundred rpm (PO couldn't figure out what it was). Hasn't happened to me after the first couple of hours with the car.

Comments appreciated!

Thanks,
Jon

I can see who owns the car. The driver usually is in the picture. Congrats.

I was standing in exactly the same spot your wife is standing in that picture, last May when I rode a Harley down the PCH. I took a shot of the rock outcroppings in the background. That's an awesome scenic point.
