Default 69 relay mystery

My 69 came with a 40 Amp NC relay, but the way it's wired is confusing to me. I thought it was a headlight relay, but tracing the wires it appears to be something else.

Here is how the relay is wired: Further Below is the fuse layout.

Relay: 30 -- wired to the somewhere, not sure where it taps in. Disappears near the smugglers box.
Relay: 86 -- wired to ground.
Relay: 85 -- wired to Fuse Box 1, Position 6, right side (source I believe)
Relay: 87 -- wired to Fuse Box 1, Position 1, left side (I don't have electric windows, so position 1 was unused)

Is this a fuel pump relay? Why would this tap into the source side of Fuse 6 -- perhaps because it is switched from the ignition, hence the fuel pump comes on when the key is turned to the first position, and a blown fuse would not stop the fuel pump?

So the way it seems to work is:

Key turned.
Fuse Position 6 powers up, switches relay to closed across 30+87.
Circuit from load (Fuel pump?) to Fuse position 1 completed.
Fuse 1 acts as fuse for the Fuel Pump?

Why would the high side load at 30 come from the Fuel pump and not the fuse panel, fuse 1? In other words, are 30 and 87 backwards, or it makes no difference?

Thanks in advance. PS. I have the fuse panels out ATM otherwise I could check to see if it's powering the fuel pump. Still curious about the 30/87 wiring.

Have you looked at a wiring diagram?

Having a hard time finding a color coded 1969 T specific wiring diagram online. The ignition for example is not the same as SL33 diagram.

There seems to be no color coded wiring diagram for a 1969T. I have a pdf of the super-hard-to-find B&W 1969T wiring diagram, which is not quite the same as SL33. It took me almost a decade to get a copy. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you. Working between the '69T B&W diagram and SL33, you hopefully will be able to figure it out. It's one of the unique challenges of working on a '69T. A concern, of course, is that your '69T was converted to a 3.2, at which time wiring changes may have been made that aren't reflected in any factory wiring diagram.

Thank you. PM sent. Found an interesting explanation on Pelican about the 69 ignition switches.
Note the side of this picture shows the USA ignition, which I believe maps to mine, though I have not pulled it out to see how it's labeled (54 vs 57a).

( I also fell into the DIN specification wormhole: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives...April_2003.pdf )
