Default Purchase advice on 1981 911 Turbo

Hey folks hoping for some wisdom here. I am located in Canada and am in the process of purchasing a Canadian spec 1981 930 Turbo.

The car is mostly stock other than:

1) RUF front valance.
2) Fikse 17 inch wheels
3) Billy Boat Headers heat exchangers with Billy Boat muffler.
4) K27 Turbo upgrade.
5) Upgraded larger intercooler.

I was thinking to go back to stock except leaving the K27 Turbo and intercooler.

The seller has agreed to replacing the front RUF valance with the stock parts, removing the current exhaust and replacing with good condition Oem heat exchangers and muffler.

I am also considering swapping the Fikse wheels with a set of 16 X 8 and 16 X 9 Maxilite rims he has as well.

As you can see I'm trying to return it mostly to stock.

My biggest concern is the exhaust system swap. Is this a bad idea? I realize some of this is personal preference but at 55 years of age I'm past the obnoxious exhaust stage. Will I lose a lot of performance? Am I better off keeping it and swapping later? he's offered to do it before the sale.

Turbos have their own forum here ( 930) they would be better geared to answer this. Personally i like factory parts including wheels.

Nice looking 930. I have stock heat exchangers and a BB exhaust on my 1982 930 and IMHO it sounds great. Nobody forces you to lean on the go pedal in populated neighborhoods, so you control the exhaust note volume with your right foot. I'd definately scoop the fuchs-look wheels. I also have the fikse-s on my car as per a PO who sold the originals, which are nice but the originals are a better fit on these cars...or so I think. Get as many of the original parts as you can, even if you switch them out later.

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for it?

I'd work all the parts into the deal and decide later.

Not something I discuss openly, and my experience would not really be relevant to yours as there are soooo many variables - timing of purchase, condition, history/ownership, use, maintenance, mileage, supply, etc.... These cars have been up and down like a '*****'s drawers' over the past 6-7 years.

Hagerty has a $$$ range for condition 1-4 cars, which I think is kinda' high overall, and you'll need to judge value based on your assessment of the car. The cost and supply of toys since the plague descended upon us have been atypical, but who can say where the ceiling is.

Give the car you're looking at a thorough inspection, then decide how badly you want it.

So you pulled the trigger and bought it? Congrats. Looks like a nice unit. It's a good time to buy one of these as you have a few months to go over the car and attend to the preventative maintenance before the deep freeze ends. Enjoy!

I don't see what the big deal is. You can see how much your neighbors bought their house for? Obviously there are many determining factors that come into play with the price of a used vehicle. I'm more so asking because he is also in Canada and there aren't many 930's for sale up here ever.

I did purchase it. Will make up for the sting of selling my 1973 911S 20 years ago.

No big deal, just information that I don't care to advertise, and what I paid a few years ago is not in the same realm of what it's worth today In the end the value is what a buyer will pay, and each purchase is a new data point on the 'market'.
