Head studs checked out GOOD. Compression & leak down test to be conducted tomorrow. Ron @ IPB said the car runs on all six cylinders & he believes there will be no need to start taking the engine apart.

I’ll update results tomorrow...

Smiles, Congrats! Looks like you got a good one! I also have those same Woodhead struts in my 79' SC and it's been a bit of a mystery to know what kind of front strut assembly will work for the easiest replacement. Please add as much detail as you can for me on that part of the restoration. I really appreciate you sharing your story. Good Luck!

portions of the 911s were galvanized but not all, the SC was the first of the fully galvanized cars.

This takes me back to when i completely refreshed my 78SC Targa all those years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

just found my post from 2006.....


Repaired WW pump
repaired headlight pump
repaired headlight pump relay
replaced front rubber impact strip
replaced front marker lens
replaced wipers
replaced steering shaft bushing
replaced front strut inserts
Turbo tie rod upgrade.
replaced brake lines
replaced front wheel bearings
replaced front cargo carpet
replaced antenna
replaced all fluids including brake, gear oil and engine oil
replaced relectric mirror switch
replaced stereo and 4 speakers
removed entire interior down to the tub and refurbished
replaced all shifter bushings and coupler bushings
instaled rear seatbelts
replaced all cv joints
replaced clutch cable
replaced pedal bushings and refurbed cluster
replaced all instrument light bulbs
replaced front sway arm bushings
replaced rear sway arm bushings and drop links
replaced rear shocks
replaced plugs, wires,valve cover gaskets, cap rotor, fuel filter, oil filter,
replaced engine sound pad,
replaced engine deck lid and front struts
replaced heater blower motor
refurbished alternator and replaced bearings
cleaned and polished fan and housing
replaced bumperettes
repaired targa roof panel
replaced injector o- rings, sleeves and sleeve o rings
removed cat bypass repainted and reinstalled with new gaskets and hardware
Replaced motor mounts
Replaced Transmision mounts and studs.

Engine is tight. Leak down numbers were good - worst one was only 7%

The compression test was good, very even. Which is what we want to see. 140,150,145,155,155,145 (1-6)

i bet after driving it for a couple of K the numbers would be even tighter too. Sounds like you are off to a great start,
