Exclamation Towing My 911 Cross Country

I'm a military guy being reassigned from CA to ND and am looking for the best one way rental trailer(UHaul, Ryder, Hertz, etc) to tow my '83 911SC. I am going to tow it with a 4WD Durango with a Class III hitch. Looking for tips or previous experiences. Oh yeah, leaving the end of SEP!
Thanks. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I tow my 911 cross-country all the time...as I attend several track events a year.

I have seen people rent the U-haul trailers, and although they're very heavy when compared to most...they seem to get the job done.

If you have a chin spoiler, ensure you have some 2" x 8" pieces on hand to supplement the ramps provided to a trailer that is otherwise designed for a "normal" car.

er8ser, I had a bad experience with Uhaul regarding there vehicle weight policy I want to warn you about. This is how the story goes;

1. Two weeks before I go in and set up the rental. I tell them what vehicle I'm towing with as well as the car that will be towed( Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 911 on the trailer).

2. One week before I confirm my reservation, make sure all will be set since I need to get out of town on time to get to the track.

3. Day of pickup I go to the Uhaul depot to pick up the trailer, they don't have it there but they have one at a store 10 min. away. No big deal, I drive over with my reciept while the manager of the store calls and lets them know I'm coming.

4. I walk in, show them the reciept to which they say "sorry we can't rent this to you since your SUV does not weigh more than our trailer and your car." WTF??!!@@##% Why didn't the manager at the last store tell me this. He had all the info. on my cars etc.

So, moral of the story, make sure they know what they are doing. There trailers weigh 2500lbs. !!!! That's almost the same as my car!! make sure you clarify all the policies with them before you get ready to rent.

Cheers, James

Actually, I echo Jame's comments on the U-Haul policy...when I looked into renting one of their car trailer years ago (when I didn't own one) I had the same issue, my truck weighed less than their trailer and my SC.

I'm glad you brought that up! ...good one...so there's something else to consider er8ser.
