This is an issue here as well with my 3.2. Thinking about having custom small cats added to the heat exchangers just before the muffler. Haven't gotten around to it, but I have seen a pelican post where someone did it.

I ran a MK cat delete on my 89 3.2 for years ... never had any fume issues.
Probably the best as far as cat delete pipes go, i'm sure many people can vouch for that as well !

Cheers

i think you are missing the obvious solution here .......

but yeah something is off ... i ran a bypass for 15 year and NEVER had fumes in the cabin ... could be because i had a Targa and ran with the roof off constantly though . I imagine your exchangers are in good shape too with that vintage and mileage.

also check pelican adds , i imagine there a rew OE cats lying around...

There is only one that I’m aware of is ca legal

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...=0814&DID=4069

other options are aftermarket sport cats, or, a used take off. Pelican search in for sale is worth a look

heres thing, make sure car is in good tune and base idle mix is correct, amd your o2 sensor is working to get car in loop mode.

i had an 89 which i ran without a car at time, and first it really wakes up the car, but more, it didn’t run overly smelly at all.

and yes, make sure you don’t have other exhaust leaks too.
