As above. Clean, clean, clean the surfaces, like surgical clean, and check that the cover has not warped. New nuts and follow the correct torque procedure. Lots of different gasket sealers available.
please document this if you can. I know at least on left side this can get more involved if a stud backs out with the nut -- you can't clear the exhaust (can't recall if it hits the heat exchanger or the muffler) with the stud, only the nut. This gave me pause recently when looking at replacing these gaskets.
OK, sounds good. I'll get everything cleaned up and take a closer look. Any secret to getting the tin work out or is that pretty logical as well?
yeah straight forward...
didnt notice what year you had but if it is drivers side and you have a 78 or a 79 its a great opportunity to replace the two studs that the smog pump used to rest on . cleaned up my engine bay nicely as that always irritated me.

nothing more than steel wool ( 00 then 000 ) , then metal polish .. ( autosol i believe )
Then hit it with spray can clear.
Just cleaned it up sitting at a table while watching a hockey game ... guess you guys could do it while watching football...
BTW happy thanksgiving to all my US Porsche friends .
As another option, consider one of the coating finishes, like Cerakote, on the fan. More of a titanium color finish. We have vendors here that offer that and they look beautiful.
