Default A little used car - maintenance

1987 911; 64k miles; stock. I have a very stock and little used 1987 911 Carrera. Annual mileage is less than 500 miles. I do an annual service/inspection with my local independent Porsche mechanic. I know that I probably should run the car more frequently to get everything up to temperature but life gets in the way and the car is left just sitting. I try to at least start the car every month or so and let it idle for about 30 mins or so. Just wondering if this maintenance regime is doing more harm than good? Stay safe and Happy Holidays.

My opinion is that idling an engine for 30 minutes is bad practice.
You should run the car so it gets to temperature, not idling.
Drain the fuel and re-fuel with alkylate fuel, run the engine so ordinary
fuel is consumed from the fuel system.
Hard to say, but probably better if you service the car and just let it
sit in a temperature & humidity controlled area. A heated garage is fine.

This is not an easy question, but perhaps reading this help...

Agreed with Vane, idling doesn’t get the oil hot enough to burn off the moisture and if anything likely just adds more to the oil. I would not start it until I was going to drive it, a week or month or more is better than monthly idling. Also I would look for non-ethanol fuel and add a fuel stabilizer to deal with any water already in the fuel. Beyond making sure you use a battery maintainer, I would suggest a CTek, I would also add more air to the tires to keep from developing flat spots.

I would leave it parked w/o starting it to idle. Then change the oil yearly. Or you could sell the car to me and I would drive it regularly to keep everything working properly. I just hate to see them sit.
