Question polished fuchs/early style

I was reading an archived thread about wheel refinishing and Jack Olsen had mentioned having his wheels done early style (polished lip and spokes w/ painted insets) by Al Reed in Anahiem, CA. Does anyone have contact information for Al Reed? I'm interested in having my Fuchs done in this fasion.

I'm also considering putting 7x16s up front. Do they fit correctly? Or does the wheel well/fender have to be modified?

Thanks Buffalo, How much is it costing per wheel and how is the service/did you mail the wheels to him?

Most of the time 7's will fit in the front with no modifications to the car. A common upgrade for the SC and Carrera cars is either 7's and 8's or 7's and 9's and even 8's and 9's are possible though I think usually some minor mods need to be done to fit 8's in the front.

I was quoted $300.00 for full polish. Includes caps and lugs. UPS ground was $32.00 going. Assume it will be about the same returning. It was a bit of a challenge to find boxes to pack the wheels. I hit up about a half dozen tire shops in the area before I caught one with wheel boxes. Most shops throw them away promptly.

I opted for no clear coat. I live in a mild climate area and don't intend to expose the wheels to road salts etc.

I think it's even cheaper for the polished rim and spokes but painted insets (as opposed to polishing everything). I've had two sets done by him for $50/wheel, including caps, but not lugs. His wife used to hand paint the crests for an extra $10/cap, but I think she started having problems with her tendons, and stopped.

Jack,

I just talked to Al today and he must have gone up in price because he quoted me $300 for a set of four done just like yours (polished lip and spokes w/ painted insets). Still a great upgrade for a good price. I'm sending my Fuchs to him next month. Tell me a little about the quality of work and durability.

Al's prices have indeed gone up....but he's still way short of Wheel Enhancement pricing.

His price has gone up from $85 to $110 on a full reanodizing and paint (original style), in two years....

His work is absolutely excellent.

regards,
Eric

Can I butt in here? Can anyone describe to me how anodizing is stripped via chemical dip tanks? That is, alloy-safe tanks that can strip the anodizing off in about five minutes?

As I understand it, you must be very careful to find a proper shop that won't dump your FUCHs into the wrong bath tank and essentially melt them. Can anyone confirm this, and do you know how the two bath tank types are different?

Thanks much!
Jw
