Bill,
Are the wheels you reference in the table above (7X16" offset 23.3) and (8X16" offset 10.6) the standard Fuchs wheel for the 194-1989 911 cars? I am having a difficult time finding the part numbers for these.

Yes, but the 8s didn't become standard until the last year or 2, and 7 fronts were never std on those year cars

The only std 7 & 8 fitments were back in '76 on the Carrera 3.0 and later the Weissach Edition cars and those were 15s not 16

That said the 7ET23.3 & 8ET10.6 x166 Fuchs w/ 205/50 & 225/45 are a very nice setup for later SC/Carrera cars, You will probably also want to lower the cars a little

Default Wheels

Are the offsets stamped on the wheel or just the part number?

Bill, you mention in some of your posts a 9 and even a 9.5" custom wheel as options on later 3.2 cars. I'm trying to figure out if I want to replace all my wheels with an aftermarket fuchs look alike ( I have poorly refinished/chromed Fuchs 6s and 7s on car now) or keep my rear 7's and put to front (after a proper refinish) and find a set of used 8" or even 9" for the rear. Will a 7 front and 9" rear be too much width in rear for the 7" up front? i.e. too much understeer? And i'm using 16" as a diameter. I'm not nearly as concerned about looks as I am about feel of the car. If using 16" wheels with a standard 7ET 23.3 front and 8ET 10.6 Rear, what would be ideal tire size for that wheel combination, again using performance, not looks as only factor?

stock Fuchs for SC/Carrera was 6 & 7 x16 205/55 & 225/50 until the last year or so when they went to 6 & 8 x16 w/ the same tires

common upgrades are 7 & 8 x16 same tires or even 225/50 & 245/45laty a very attractive 205/50 & 225/45 option on the same wheels has become available
& & 8 x15 205/50 & 225/50 x15 was another way to go that provided quite a boost to performance the 205/50 & 225/45 option above is very close to this in performance benefit

7 & 9 x16 205/55 & 245/45 or 205/50 & 245/45 is another good option

all the above are stock Fuchs wheels

if guying custom up to
8ET27 & 9.ET19 w/ 225/45 & 255/40 x17are good fits 8 ET27 & 9ET15 w/ 215/45 & 225/40 is a more efficient though not as grippy option
Here's a decision tree for selection, you start by choosing the tire you want to use based on it's effects on performance

Here is a pretty complete compendium of what fits an SC/Carrera, grip generally increases from top to bottom and left to right though there are exceptions

When in doubt choose the shorter tire

the narrower the wheel and the tire and the shorter the tire the more wiggle room wrt ETs, when doing a max fitment it's a game of mm and at times compromise

Thank you Bill. Very helpful. Just out of curiosity, would a 7ET23.3 in front with a 205/50 up front work with a 9ET15 245/45 in back? that combo seems to be blank in your table. Just thinking that a shorter tire up front would equal more grip than the taller 55 ratio tire.

yes, i ran that for a while back in the early '90s, It induces a little more understeer than i like but is generally fine, 225/45 on the 7s and 245/45 on 9s would be better

even better is 205/50 & 225/45 x16 on 7 & 8 x16, is ay better because for 225 you really want an 8 and there are no 8" Fuchs w/ the right o/s for the front
