Post Puffs of smoke

I hope someone can help. I just installed Weber Carbs on my 3.0L last year and I am finding that I am getting a puff of black smoke at acceleration or from a dead stop. The carbs are set for a rich mixture. Are the puffs due to the carbs being set too rich or am I looking at engine problems? Thanks!

Sounds like they are just a lillte rich, or timing retarded some. Have you checked timing lately? The engine has to do something with the extra gas being dumped, just is not being burnt from a dead stop. A little advance in timing might help, or tweek down on the juice a little.

Black smoke is a sign of a rich mixture , don't worry it's better than being weak. There are various methods of finding the correct jets for your carbs if you suspect a problem with the hardware but it might be just a question of adjusting them after a years running.

Could it be too agressive a stroke on the accelerator pump? Anybody know?
