![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I see that the 911SC's have different fuel filters. 78 to 80 and 81 to 83. What is the difference? Will a 78 work on an 83?
My current one is a Mahle KL22.
Thanks in advance ................................. Randy

A quick way to tell the difference by looking at them is the 78-80 is approx. 2.5" in diameter and taller. The 81-83 is shorter and approx. 4" in diameter. Both year filters have differnt fittings in the top and bottom of the filter.

This can be quite an ordeal as I found out a couple years ago. Despite the fact that I received a smaller 2.5" diameter filter when I ordered one, the one on my 1980 SC was the larger one mentioned by 911S4. I ended up copying the part number off the orginal one and ordering it from the Porsche dealer. Even with this filter I had to transfer my old fittings from the old filter to make the male/female connection work correctly. It turns out it was one from a 81-83 despite my car being built in late 1979.
Good luck,
Noel

If I recall correctly the pre 80 filters (2.5")are also for VW applications with Bosch K or L Jetronic Fuel injection. I had a hell of a time finding one for my Euro 79. I ended up with a Bosch part number for a VW (Jetta I believe) and switched the fittings as well. PIA to locate the damn thing through Euro Auto Parts suppliers.
