Default Carrillo vs. Pauter

I posted this on the 944 board but got little response.

Which is the better rod? Carrillo costs a bit more -- is it a bit better? This is for a hot rod 944 turbo that will make about 100hp per rod.

Tom:

Both rods are very good and we've had excellent success over the year with both products.

Some of our motors made over 200 HP/litre in turbocharged form and 110 HP/litre in N/A configuration.

Currently, we use Pauters.

It seems many engine builders use Pauter. Can you tell me why you use them over Carrillo?

Although I cannot address why others use them, I'll offer three reasons why we do:

1) Availability. I simply cannot wait 3-6 months for rods in my business.

2) Windage. I prefer the shape for reducing windage which is a big issue in 911 race engines.

3) Cost. These are just as good as Carrillo IMHO, and they are more reasonably priced.
