3 weeks ago my intention was to enjoy the first drive of the year. First start up ,does not run on all cilinders and as soon as the throttle is hit the engine does die. Fuel system checked and ending up at injector 1 as a suspect as i did think ... . 4 following days start and runs fine . Day 5 drive out of the garage and the car does stumble like you would cut the fuel for a second and back on , so it chakes up and down and it is undrivable. Before winter all fine with no similar issue at all . Now day 15 and still intermittent running on 4-5cilinders and eventually on all 6 but impossible to drive as still the same stumble cut out and run symptom. What was done /checked or replaced recently. Fuel lines checked , even fuel tank filter and fuel drained and fresh 98 in .
Flywheel sensors checked and only two years old.
Throttle idle switch new and adjustment as per book together with full throttle switch.
MAF is a refurbished unit .
Idle speed adjuster is new
Fuel press regulator and damper are new .
Fuel pump bosch new .
Coil swap , ignition cables checked .
Not much technically talent on this board anymore. Most have moved on to Pelican , that is without a doubt the best place to go to look for this kind of help. I have a CIS car and have never experienced your type of issue so cant really help.
Most probably found the f... bad boy . Top spacer in a sort of none metalic material was gone . Spring on the weight was also gone , not sure when but anyway when distributor was removed he did have a axial play of 1.5mm iso 0.1mm.
A correction , the play on the distributor was longitidunal but anyway out of the woods.
so if I may , if you have your distributor out for wathever reason check the play on the shaft .
it should be 0.1 a 0.15mm if not you may end with a broken shim and lot of play as I did .
It's quite possible that moisture could have condensed inside your distributor and ignition cables during a long cold winter. Keep in mind that Beru ignition cables are prone to moisture contamination due to multiple connectors that allow the stranded copper to corrode. Check #4 plug connector. That's the one that tends to corrode since it's more exposed to the elements than the rest.
