Question marchal alternator

does anyone out there have a source for the shaft endcap/bushing shown in this pic?

http://www.geocities.com/kingliz.geo/marchal.gif (also attached if it worked)

furthermore, is it actually a bushing? does it do any work? or just an I.D. cap?

i have the new bearings now i'm wondering how crucial this part is.

I'd love to find one too. I have a perfectly good alternator needing one. I am not sure if it is just a cap, or if it electrically isolates the rotor from the housing. I know there is no isolation at the front bearing, but there could be a break internally somewhere; I've never checked. Of course if it does not insulate, we could have some sleeves machined to take up the difference between the bearing and the housing. I'd appreciate hearing whatever you might find out. I tried all of the suppliers I use, to no avail.
