So what's the deal with the car? News reports state that his $100,000 1989 Porsche Sportster was found north of here in the Lake of the Ozarks, but I don't know what a "Sportster" might be or why it would be worth so much. Anybody??

This story?
Wet Porsche
My guess is that its typical media accuracy in action, i.e "'89 Sportster" = "'89 Speedster" and "$100,000" = "$50,000".

That's one of the news reports - and that would be my guess as well, but I didn't know if there was something trick about it or something.
I wonder where the salvage yard is up there -

I'm not sure that the price tag is completely off. Porsche made the speedster for one model year only, 1989 and only 2100 were made at all.
Out of those, only 800 ever made it to the US, so it's a rare car indeed. $100K might be overdoing it a little, but then again it all depends on the condition of the car.
