I did the same thing years ago. I spent a lot of time with some polish and a lot of elbow grease and was able to bring them back to life. The Vaseline will wear off quickly.

So far the Vaseline has held up and the wheels look decent. I have not washed the car since applying Vaseline multiple times (applied and hand buffed off). The car has been driven in light rain and it has held up. I'm hopeful they stay as is - but if not, will try hand polishing them.

Thanks for the the posts/responses.

i'd be careful about P21s unless it states it is specifically for original Fuchs, I used P21s a few years back and it didn't turn out well, some of the products out there these days are too aggressive, good to see the Vaseline brought them back

I thought I'd resurrect this thread and see if anyone has had any success with a product to apply to the original Fuchs to keep the shine up besides Vaseline.

they are not supposed to shine, its more of a satin finish , i do nothing with them and they look fine.

Mine are a little dull and I'm still dealing with some discoloration from an overly strong wheel cleaner.

Maybe I shouldn't have not used "shine them up" in my post. Maybe more like to restore the deep black satin finish.

I can continue to use Vaseline (although it is very messy). I was hoping maybe there was a consumer wheel product that others have used to maintain the finish.

okay now i understand ... yeah Vaseline is messy , that's why i don't use it ... i imagine dust would stick to that too..

The dust actually gets trapped in the Vaseline and then just wipes right off. I think that is better than discoloring the lip of the wheel. It really does clean and shine the wheels...I'm thinking of having all my wheels powder coated gold in the near future anyways....
