My 81 has started a new behavior pattern. When it has a full tank of gas it runs really poor over about 4k rpm. It feels like it is starved for fuel and will barely accelerate. As the tank draws down it improves proportionally until it is near empty where it winds up nicely. Anyone ever experience a similar situation?

You may want to pull the filter in the bottom of the tank to check it's, and to a degree the tanks, condition. There's an article on fuel system tuneup on tech.rennlist.com that tells you how to do that.
