I'm a new 911 owner (997.1 C2S), and I'm already dreaming of owning another 911 someday or maybe more. I use mine as a daily driver. I'm most interested in the cars that are obtainable for a good value right now. For instance, a 996 Turbo. Anyone else out there with goals to own a stable of 911's or have already achieved this dream?
I used to own multiple. I bought a new 997.2 C2S in '09 and my current '84 Targa in '11. It makes more sense to me to own a more diverse pair like mine, than at 996 which is very similar to your 997.
I like to have three categories of cars: A family truckster, a GT, and a pure sportscar. My current group of an '05 Cayenne, an '82 928, and a '99 Boxster fill that perfectly. I've just added an '87 911 Cab, and when it's ready the Boxster will move on to the next owner.
I have a friend here at the country club that keeps trying to buy the perfect car. Buys a new car every year then trades it in. This is because he is looking for the "perfect" car for him. Has to be fast, has to carry clubs, has to do this, and that.
I keep telling him what he needs is MULTIPLE cars because then he can get the driving experience he wants without compromising, and that is what owning multiple cars is really all about. Even the same model over different years offers a different driving experience.

If we are going there, I like and "need" the diversity as well. For family of 5, we have an X7 and I drive and '18 M5 every day. Targa is a toy and my other is a '17 Masi GT MC vert.
Nah too many is when you run out of garage space. But then I have room for 5, 6 if I don't mind playing tetris with Porsche's and the other cars sit outside. They aren't classics yet so IMO they don't count. LOL
A little update on my journey to 911 number 2. First issue, I must find a garage to park in. I only have 1 parking spot where I live. Finding a garage for rent in my area seems like more of a scarce resource than a Porsche where I live (Los Angeles), so I'm taking my time. In the meantime I have been considering a 911 SC which seem to be a very affordable entry to an air cooled 911.
@Crazy 997- come down to PECLA (Porsche Experience Center in Carson) 1st Saturday of the month as there is a huge turnout of Porsche's of all kinds including 911 SC's. You can also look into classic / enthusiast car storage places in LA area... Matt Farrah (Smoking Tire) is about to open one up in LA area.
