McIntosh SST audio system ?
Has anyone looked into what the McIntosh SST audio system is? This was a monthly ad running in Excellence for about 2-3 years until last year. From the caption it appears to be their top amp the MC4000M ( 6CH= 4x 100W + 2x300 + crossover with add in eq, MSRP= $4000) and probably sets of their speakers and a head unit. It says "specifically designed for the 911... available at select Porsche dealers. "
Any clue what this system is and is it really designed for 911 somehow or just marketed that way?

That amp is unreal and their head units have the absolute cleanest signal of any head unit I have used, not to mention dual 20 bit DA converters. Their car audi speakers are not the best, especially for the price. I bought a set of MSS 670 components for about $ 1,000.00 and they are sitting in a box unused. I did use the tweeters, but the mids were not up to par for hi end. They would be as good or better than speakers in the $ 400.00 to $ 500.00 range, but high end Dynaudios, Morrell, Rainbows and etc. in the $ 1,000 range will blow them away. That being said, this would be a heck of an upgrde for any system that has ever come stock in a car including the overrated Mark Levison in the Lexus.
Price would be more than $ 4,000.00. The amp alone sells for $ 4,000. The head unit goes for $ 1,000 unless you get the one with the stand DA converter then its 2 grand, but nothing less in price head unit wise. A set of their components run a $ 800 to $ 1,000 and their sub $ 350 to $ 500. Stand alone crossovers and EQs run a couple hundred bucks and then you need to buy the power box for the module so add another $ 400.00. Then you have to buy the hadn held controler to operate the EQ or crossovers so add another $ 500.00. I have got $ 10,000 invested in my McInotsh system in my 964 carbriolet which includes all of the above except I am running a 406 6 channel amp and a 301 mono amp.
