Post What's the right price?

1978 930 red with black leather, 41K miles, third owner, same owner for 17 years, with: SS exhaust, adjustable boost, rebuilt tranny, turbo, new clutch, pressure plate, A/C compressor, oil lines and oh yeah, 5 year old paint job, near flawless. Haven't seen the car yet, waiting on my 81sc pending sale. I was just wondering what is resonable price for such a car. Excellence calls for 26.9K, 20.1K and 17.7K respectively. I know I have to see the car and see how much it is worth to me, but I sure would appreciate your hepl...The guy sounds cool, had his fun with the car and is ready for something different. Car has never been hit.

I have an SC and not a 930 so I am by far an expert. But, it sounds to me like the car you mention has had a lot of work for only having 41k on it. I guess having the turbo calls for more aggressive use!

Good luck in your purchase!

I agree with Chris. Although time is as much of an issue as mileage in terms of wear, some of the things you list seem odd to me - such as a new transmission (a new clutch is pretty standard on 930s at about 30 - 45K). The 4 speed 930 tranny is pretty tough. The price ranges you mention seem about right for this year of 930. This will certainly need a really good PPI. The adjustable boost is something you should ask about as almost all experts agree that anything over 1 bar on a stock 3.3 turbo can cause premature engine failure and/or wear.

P.S. I have a modified 86 930 and they are a blast.

This is the one piece of advice you must absolutely follow. Find a good shop, and have them give it a very thorough going-over. It's easy to get caught up in the thrill of buying a new Porsche. It can be very expensive without a PPI.
