Ordered a new OEM alternator for my '87 911 online. The website advertised it for X dollars and delivery in 3-10 days. Just got an email saying the part needs to be ordered from Germany. If I still want it, there will be a 20% surcharge, and I'll have to pay the additional shipping. It'll also take 3-6 week to arrive in LA and then will be shipped to me. WTF?! If it's advertised on their website at the specified price, why is it MY problem when they have to order it from Germany?! I responded back to clarify the situation and I told them that if I was understanding the situation correctly, then I will never buy another part from them again. So frustrating.

an alternator should be readily available here and you should get it in a couple of days, must have been something special or something. 87 is virtually plug and play and we ship every day without a problem, atlanta, here, between the three importers, shows over 40 of them available for the 87

Outing the seller wasn't my intention when I posted. Was just very frustrated. They responded to my email and said they'd waive the surcharge.

It was the "Porsche" alternator. I guess I could have ordered the Valeo option.

I'm both! Looks like I've worked out the alternator issue. Can you help me figure out the HVAC?

We’re in the UK but can typically deliver to the US in 2 days.

We also have the most powerful alternators ever available for the 911. 75A idle, 175A peak. We also do them for the 964 / 993.

Where did you find that instruction card for the "climate" controls? I've had my car for 19 years, and gave up on understanding how to operate that part of the car 19 years ago. Thank you.

I'm glad my ranting about online ordering/pricing has at least resulted in one positive outcome

And to try and contribute something on the original topic of alternators, here's a link to a video demonstrating the sound my alternator was making.

Mine was making a similar sound. Found a local place that rebuilt alternators and had it rebuilt. It was just the bearings and the seal in the rear that typically fails. I believe it cost $65.00 for the rebuild. Electrics were fine.
