That is my plan.

Now I just need to find one. There aren't many near me...there are plenty in Chicago, which is 2-3 hours away.

How many people have bought a car without driving it? Let's say I find the right car that would require a flight to get to, but I had somebody near the car perform the PPI...

I've done it a few times. For the PPI, make sure you shop around and get someone who knows what they're doing. If it's a big city, there should be plenty of options. Talk to them, ask exactly what they will do for the PPI. The term PPI can mean different things to different people. And usually Porsche speciality places will be several days, maybe even weeks out so plan ahead, don't leave it until the last minute.

Also ask a seller for a video and/or a lot of pictures. If they're serious sellers and have nothing to hide, they should be more than happy to provide that to you. If they don't, you probably don't want their car.

also... join PVA and ask for help - either directly or just what shop can do a good PPI

and... the best cars are sold direct; never see a newspaper/CL/BringTrailer/etc. ad

This is true. Although I’ve seen a few gems trade as the owners just weren’t connected with the community and they got them consigned.

Thanks for the correction - I've been doing web searches for "pva" and was very confused.

If I'm searching for a 996, is access to the PCA mart the answer to my prayers?

I think you will more likely find enthusiast sellers that know their cars and have taken good care of them. But you still need to do your due diligence and get that PPI.
