Just that they are over a quarter century old and prone to all the usual ailments associated with advanced age. Mine snapped 3 head studs at ~108000 mi/21yrs. Other than that and the expoloding air box it was a pretty bullit proof engine.
Well, 3.0 engine is a reliable engine.Try to see the engine running before buy at a stand or drive it if possible.Check for compression, for smoke white or blue as this a bad sign, crank end play, oil leaks. If you find a engine that it will need a full rebuilt then maybe it is better to go for a 3.2 engine...

I thought that some blue smoke on ignition was okay because oil was still in the case and thus was burned on start up. I know that my 3.0l Carrera smokes for about 10 seconds on start up (blue) and then that clears away. It may smoke longer if I have left it for longer.
This is certainly what I have heard with earlier and later 911's as well.
Often the cis cars will smoke at start up due to oil in the crankcase vent hose. This is usually the result of overfilling the oil tank.
Of course the valve guides and/or rings are often shot also.
