Targa Newfoundland/old Porsche's
The lack of entries to the 2019 event (as of today there is only 1 competitor showing on the list) has got me looking back and remembering the early years. There was some pretty amazing old Porsche's that showed up over the years......

The competition during the first 10 years of the event was so stiff that pushing hard was the only way to even remotely have a good finish.......the result of that was often cars went home with some damage....

One car and driver with a big Porsche connection (or collection) that kinda slipped under the radar is......
.......Michael Stoschek of Germany. Just google him/"brose", or look through some Porsche magazines of the last few months for some more info.

The driver lying down in the grass is not injured.......just disgusted with himself!!!
They were pushing hard all week and at the pointy end of the standings......took one low speed corner just a little bit too hard and understeered off into the ditch with the brakes locked up. I believe it was the second last or last stage too.

It's always a nice event to watch when it eventually comes on tv ... still gotta love that Ferrari plunge
into the water a few years back.
Probably a fun thing to participate in , but i can't afford to park my 911 in a ditch ... lol

There has been a few cars in the water over the years ^ 996 turbo. I had in car video of a 944 going straight in too......must have a look for it.....
Some of the pictures above go back as far as 2004........I would say a lot of those guys would probably have second thoughts about entering those cars today with current values?

Fond Memories of Targa Newfoundland 2004
Our Car at Prologue run.
Just after DNF-injector issues. Got new ones flown in but by that time we had missed too many stages. The real fun part was that we were the last car before each stage closed so we could drive as fast as we wanted, and drive really, really fast we did.

Correct me if I am wrong - The Targa Newfoundland is a mere shadow of its former "Race/Rally" event and is more of a drive in the country now. There were so many complaints from local residents regarding speed and safety issues that the original organizers sold it or tried to sell it.
Last year I contemplated entering a car and went through the entry paperwork and it looked like a waste of time and funds.

Last year I believe there was only about 23 cars that showed up and actually took the start line (there was about 30 listed on the website), organizers are still trying to sell it. When you have a field of mostly newbie's (both to the Targa event and to racing in general) you end up with off's and some questionable driving. There was a Subaru that had a big one last year.......end over end on the prolog (practice/warmup) stage.....that caused another uproar from locals. The sad part was the car was in "Fast Tour or Grand Touring".......ie no cage and not even in the flat out racing division.
