Default Battery replacement

I am tired of wrestling this huge battery in and out. Is there a
good replacement. One that will fit without mods? Or Optima, but that does need some type of mod? Is is worth it and simple to install?
Where to buy?

I put an Interstate model MB66 in my 88 Carrera. It is approximately 4" shorter than the one you probaly have in there now. I think the red Optima takes a special mounting bracket since there is not one on the leading edge of the battery to secure in it the car.

Good Luck.

When I replaced the battery in my SC, I got one from Autozone. 7 year warranty, 2 year free replacement, has the foot on the battery so the stock clamp works just fine. Overall fit was fine, cost around $60.

Folks,

I'm also looking for a replacement battery for my stock 3.2L '86 Carrera Coupe. The current battery is an Interstate MB66-50 w/550 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA).

It was purchased in March of 1997 so I think it held up well!

The battery fits fine (really can't see how any other dimension could - longer? No Way!) and has a REALLY neat positive terminal cover (red plastic) that I DO want to have on the replacement.

My question concerns suggested Amp/Hour rating, CCA rating and (of course) finding one that is the same physical size with the correct 'feet' for mounting as well as the positive terminal cover.

Do I have any other options? The Interstate obviously held up in fine style but I don't know it's Amp/Hour rating and I'm wondering if 550 CCA is too low? I've seen 88 Amp/Hours suggested.

As an FYI, the reason for replacement is that it's starting to (slowly) not hold a charge and the car is a daily driver.

Volts from the Paris-Rhone (sp?) alternator is a solid 14.25 at all RPM's (idle and above) with a pulsing 83-91ma current draw (VDO Clock/Stock Alarm?) with all systems off, hood open and hood light disconnected - just like it sits in the garage.

A 30 minute 40A charge w/battery charger gets it back up to snuff but in three days (with daily 50 mile plus driving @ highway speeds) it's goes back to just under what it takes to turn the car over.

Thoughts?

Barry

I am considering an Odyssey PC680MJ. It only weighs 15lbs and is < $100. Elephant racing sells a nice aluminum bracket to mount it with. Anyone have experience with Odyssey or the elephant mounting bracket?

Elephant Racing caters to track guys in Calif big time.. I imagine that any product they sell is very good. Elephant's oil cooling system has a big track following. Elephant's suspension bushing up-grade is widely respected.
Check it out.
