Default SC Airbox Hole??

Just curious. My 78 SC with CIS injection has a hole on the right side of the airbox. It protrudes on the right side as though there should be a hose of about 1/2 inch fitted on to it. I don't have the air pump or any other smog devices on this car. I had a bouncing idle problem and while searching for air leakes into the system, decided to plug this hole with a rubber plug for the bottom of a chair / cane that goes around the outside of the protrusion (so as not to suck anything through the intake). That seems to have helped the cold idle issue by sealing up the hole, but I'm still curious as to what originialy connected there. Any ideas?

Thanks

I believe the hole you are talking about is normally plugged with something referred to as a flame trap cartridge and a hose clamp. If I recall properly it is nothing more than a plug.

Ditto ... there's nothing connected to mine.
