Default Track day with a '74 Targa

I haven't done a track day in almost three years, and I have this crazy thought creeping up in my mind, of doing an HPD event at Lime Rock with my '74 Targa, ratty 165 Toyo tires and all. Is that a really stupid idea?

New tires, flush brake fluid, check rubber hoses(brake and fuel), check brake pad life, keep an eye on the oil temp, and send it.

I've done a good number of track days and run in a few series over the years...... Never on ratty tires or marginal brakes .

Ok, new tires will be ordered soon. I hate seeing Toyos on a vintage car anyway. Hoses, pads and rotors were changed last year.

What if the underside doesn't stay completely dry, is that a showstopper?

fresh tires
fresh fluids
fresh pads
change oil prior
have it looked at/ make sure all your oil pipes and car is in condition to be driven hard

No, not crazy, just make sure you cover the safety elements. A completely dry car is not a requirement, one that spits oil on the track WILl be a problem. For you and other drivers.

Brake fluid has to be fresh, no more than a few months old, or it won't pass tech

small oil leaks are ok, big leaks or other fluids, especially brake fluid not so much. I've seen cars black flagged for excessive leaks or excessive smoke
