Default Fabspeed Motorsport | 86 Porsche 911 Carrera In the Shop

Right before Christmas, we got a gift of our own at Fabspeed and were lucky enough to do a complete performance upgrade on this beautiful, air-cooled 1986 911 Carrera.

The customer lives only a few towns away and kept hearing about Fabspeed, so when he heard about our 2018 Open House, he decided to pay the shop a visit for the first time.

After talking for a bit and seeing how seriously we take our craft, he told is he’s had this beautiful 911 in his garage for the past 18 years and had barely taken it out. He wanted us to do a complete diagnosis of the cars current condition, fix anything that needed attention, and then see what we could add-on to take it to the next level.

We got this gorgeous 911 in our shop and determined that the vehicle needed new front struts, brakes, and tires before going any further with upgrades.

After that was taken care of, we installed a full RSR Header Muffler Kit to bring out the true power and sound of the 911 engine, adding custom dual outlets and a set of quad tips for a unique rear aesthetic. We tied everything together with a Performance Chip and did post-modification Dyno pulls to check our work; the results did not disappoint. We saw max gains of 29 WHP and 21 ft/lbs. of TQ.

This classic was one of our favorite builds of the entire year. What do you guys think?

Great story.

Anyway you can post the Dyno chart?

Who's chip did you use?

Did you mod the airbox?

Ditto on the dyno chart!

Your heater boxes look nicely built - how functional are they compared to the stock ones? They look considerably smaller.

Chrome a bit much for me personally (I'm guessing that was an option though), overall it's a nice looking package.

Great questions guys!! please see dyno chart below saw some great power!

Chip we used was a DME chip from 911 chips. Simple plug and play install, regarding the air box, we did not upgrade that just yet, he was waiting until the spring for some more upgrades!

Good eye Porsche0nut! The heater boxes are a little smaller then the factory heater boxes, for a couple reasons. One being ease of install, many heater boxes have issues being installed because of the factory rear sway can come in the way or are too close to the boxes. Other reason being fitment, these headers are designed to fit a few other applications! If you are ever in the area feel free to stop by!! We typically have many air cooled 911's in the shop!

The giant chrome exhaust tips might be a little over the top for some?

Maybe offer an option of chrome tip delete for customers who want less bling. (I cut the chrome tip off mine)

This was a custom set of tips that we produced per the customer's request. We offer this set up as of now with the standard oval tips.

I do really like the oval tips fabspeed uses, that I must confess, they look like 41/2 ovals.

Color of the car is real nice too
