Since I have threads for my other cars, I thought I'd post here about a chance I took on a "higher" market 911T in Signal Orange off BAT. Never bought a car sight unseen, may never again. Was nervous as hell until it showed up a few days later.
Seller was super cool, spent a lot of money at a very good shop in Flagstaff, and so I rolled the dice, and yeah, the price was higher but so much work has been done.

So, will share a few things here as I get to learn about the old old cars, my next oldest is an 89 carrera that is all original, and really nice.

Summarizing it:
The previous owner picked it up out of CA where I have records dating back to 1979.
Owner 1: Not sure, but it was CA as the blue plate i have is ~76 date range. New to 76. First owner put near 100k miles on it it seems.
Owner 2 - had car from 1976-2011 - I have a stack of receipts from this owner to current, 100's of pages.
Owner 3 - 2011-2018 - he did the cosmetic and mechanical restoration, to a nice standard
Owner 4 - Me

So here is what I got and what I see as I poke into it:
Chassis seems to have about 145k miles on it.
Owner #2 replaced the engine in 1992 with a 2.7L with weber carbs. Car had about 125k miles on it then
When the car was sold in 2011, owner #3 started a restoration
Car was stripped down, rust repair in back section from window seepage
Repainted in original signal orange to a good standard
Added S body work
All new seals, all new rubber, refinished all bright work
Interior was refinished to a nice standard w/o going too overboard
Dash done, original steering wheel
Original seats in great condition
New carpets
New headliner
NON original door panels, i guess the originals were really thrashed. Too bad, I'll have to find a set or go to a 911R type
Full suspension refresh - clean, powder coat, new rubber, new shocks
Full brake refresh - new master, new lines, fully refinished brakes
Transmission rebuilt
Engine top end done, new rings
Carbs refreshed
Case a little seepy, couple drops after a drive sitting over night. Not bad! and I'll live w/ it
SSI headers/heat exchangers and center muffler
Original Radio works, wired for an aux in :-) That's awesome!
Only thing not working I think is the rear defroster, oh and I need to wire the hood lights up
Wheels are 1973 dated flat 6 Fuchs
What I've seen of under body looks good, found a little old rust repair in front pan area
Car drives awesome
It's a little boggy on start, I need to get it tuned and adjusted for sea level - it was fully setup at Flagstaff 6K elevation
TO summarize the previous owner: full cosmetic and mechanical refresh. About the ONLY thing not done was split the case, repair original door panels, or go over the top making the interior fully new (although it is very very nice).

Overall, Im pleased with the purchase. I'll spend a few $ to get a handful of things done, and to what I like/standard.
This week I'll be putting new Pirelli CN36 tires on it
Full mechanical inspection - I changed oil
Will do another oil change, trans change, brake flush, fuel filter, air filter, fan belt
Adjust valves, replace timing box gaskets, valve cover gaskets
New plugs (wires/cap/rotor look good)
Have the carbs adjusted / tuned
Inspect all the fuel lines, etc
Inspect all the electrical
Adjust shift linkage
Hood will pop up sometimes, so get that adjusted
Hood shocks
Get hand throttle working right
Install turbo tie rods on the front
Get it proper aligned / setup by an old 911 chassis guy
Handful of other things, like look at sway bars f/r

Overall, i would call this car one that was restored to a level "I" would do, which is great driving condition, a car to enjoy, looks great. I drive my cars, so it's exactly what I want. This car will NOT be hot rodded, even though with the 2.7 it's actually quite fast, surprisingly!!! The cosmetics are really nice I will have it 'corrected' an probably wrap the front, since its so nice. And will sort out a few of the mechanicals and probably drive it 3-4k miles a year, or like 6x what the previous owner did! :-)

Oh and it gets a LOT of smiles, just shows nice. Like a flash back to the period 70s. And most importantly, the wife commented when I told her "Oh yeah, um, i bought another car.. " CUTE! haha. and she enjoys riding in it.
