What is an approximate cost of a rebuilt late model 915 5speed transmission ?

Rebuilt by a reputable shop where you don't have to worry if they cut corners? I'm going to guess $6K-$7K without limited slip. But let's see what others say.

Vertex sells rebuilt 915's for $6100, but you get back $2500 after you send them your core. No personal experience, but I think this would be a rebuild I'd be less confident about.

Most of these cars are driven so few miles that a place can take a chance with a partial rebuild and nobody is likely to notice for years.

I rebuilt mine myself, and just replaced the parts that were worn. The rebuild was due to 2nd gear exploding in 5 different pieces. The main shaft bearing race was spun in the case. Replaced 2nd gear. 1-2 gear slider ring, 2nd gear dog teeth and synchros, upgraded to a 1 piece bearing retainer, and shipped the case and had the case fixed. Was in it for around 2k. That’s with me doing the labor
