Default My 1974 HellGrun 911-Finally 100% done

HellGrun

I rarely post anything about my personal Porsche's but this car is so exciting to share as it's probably the nicest, most original mid-year 911 I have ever seen. It's just a joy to marvel at all the small details, like being transported back 45 years.

I have been working on my 1974 911 coupe for the past year, attempting to make the car as close as humanely possible to how it looked the day it was built in July of 1973, yet maintaining it as 100% original. I won't bore you with all the details, but suffice it to say we went thru the car in painstaking detail from top to bottom. After a year of sleepless nights and hours sweating the smallest of details I feel like it is complete and I thought I would share the car with my Rennlist friends. A few cool details about the car:
  • Paint is Special Color HellGrun or Jade Green (as it was called in the US as they were worried the original name would offend people). Note the paint can in the photos, that is the original factory paint which was used on the car!
  • Car has ~41k original miles
  • I purchased it from the original owner, who is an amazing guy who loved this car for 44 years.
  • Car is a very early build G-body, in fact it was completed prior to the final 1973 F-body cars coming off the line and as such has some unique transitional trim and detail type items
  • Car is 100% original: all the paint, trim, lenses, glass, interior, etc...
Once we got the car done I have been able to take it to a few great shows:
  • Porsche Parade 2018- Lake of the Ozarks
  • 000 Magazine-Rare Shades at Canepa in Scotts Valley, CA
  • Werks Reunion 2018- Carmel, CA

Now my job is just to get some miles on the engine rebuild, that will be the fun part!

If anyone needs photos of details, I painstakingly took photos of every nook and cranny during disassembly, detailing, etc so I have a record of what is original. A fun project for sure! Hope you all like it!

HellGrun at Pebble Beach, CA

100% original paint- Bagnell Dam, Lake of the Ozarks, MO

Special Order Colors were delivered with their original paint tucked in the trunk, most were lost but amazingly this can survived with the car!

Interior in Cinnamon Leather.

100% original interior.

Radio delete car, look at this original carpets.

All original engine bay foil stickers

Numbers matching 2.7 liter freshly rebuilt

All the factory accessories, present and accounted for.

We painstakingly detailed the chassis but kept all the original stampings, cosmoline and details.

Great car. I got to see it at Rare Shades. Special color. Looks incredible in person.

And congrats on being able to keep it so original. Sweating the details. Really amazing accomplishment.

Sure wish I was but between the last few big shows (20 days gone in total) my marital car show "equity" account is depleted...

I get it....that’s why I skipped Monterey; marital bliss allows me to keep playing with my cars so we need to pick and choose!

PS I have that San Diego Parade sticker from 1977 and also one from 1992. Still unused in new condition!

Thanks for bringing the car out, Nathan. The color, details, and attention to detail made it one of my favorites!

Thanks for putting together a great event, Pete! Even though there were lots of events during car week, your show was one of the most fun. More focused, low key with lots of true enthusiasts! I know it will only grow.

Nathan,

Great to meet you last week. Your beautiful 74 is an exceptional car and very deserving for the first place/ corporate award. Also think for your guidance on my car. the 74 -89 911 class was on full display!!

Lots of great cars at WERKS, and Tom and his team always do a great job. gets better and better each year.
