Default track tires

I'm in need of some new track tires for the fall. 16 " rims ( 7" and 8" 205/55 front and 225/50 rears) on an SC, not many choices. I also like DOT approved so I don't have to change at the track. I have used Toyo 888 Rs before but want some advice from those that have tried the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. Which are better and hold up better. Texas can be hot even in the fall

The R888 has historically been a garbage tire, and if you read the current reviews on tire rack, everyone with a keyboard says the new version is still bad. If you autocross on the RE71r, why would you shop the tires you're referencing? If you insist on trying a tire that's only possibly incrementally better than the RE71r, then try the pirelli's and let us know how it goes.

I thought we made it pretty clear with one word answers that you were wasting your time and ours with the R888 and Pirelli.

If you want real tires that will do the job, buy the RE71r or a Hoosier A7 / R7. Otherwise, roll the dice on whatever you want. If you're looking for validation on the tires that you like the looks of, you probably won't get it.

I had a buddy with a long hood and had a R888 completely come apart on the track. Took fair bit of paint with it on the fender.

FWIW,.....

I run Trofeo R's on my car (it has 15's) as the choices are VERY few in the sizes I need.

That said, I just love them and consider them a major step above R888's, RA-1's, and NT01's.

I do not know how long they will last, however it doesn't matter to me since the rest of their driving qualities makes it all worthwhile.

Had Hoosier R7s on16” 8s and 9s. Didn’t like them at all (and I ran and won on R6 for years)

I love my Trofeo Rs. Old guys rule!

I apologize as I have never criticized a comment but this one I will. First, if I'm wasting your time don't read the thread. I asked a simple and honest question and was looking for simple answer. I have run 888's and they are fair, not bad in the wet. I have never run the Pirelli tires so I asked. As for Hoosier, from all I have seen and heard good tires that heat up quickly however I'm not currently running enough negative camber to fully utilize these tires. Sorry I wasted your time but I do appreciate the comments shared by the other posters.

By the way nice sailing picture

A lot of people (including me) race (not just "track") on R7's, though I've never heard of anybody driving to and from the track on them. Somebody must think R7's are at least reasonably good, since several race sanctioning organizations have banned them.
