Carrera 930/20 3.2 ROW spec engine in USA
About 18 months ago I missed a shift in my 87 Carrera, and revved it up to about 8700 rpm. Pistons hit and bent the valves. The engine still ran (barely), and I managed to drive 200 miles home from Houston. The engine only had 93K miles on it, so I was rather bummed to have destroyed such a good engine.
Anyway, I've taken the whole engine apart, and was planning on doing a complete rebuild, with new Pistons and Cylinders. It looked like it was going to be around $7k in parts. I was doing all the labor. The engine has now been apart for over a year, and rather than rebuild it I decided to buy a 1989 3.2 ROW (930/20) engine from Europe that is claimed to only have 23kms on it. Let just pretend that this is indeed true and correct.
My question is, will I be OK running US gas with a 93 (RON+MON/2) octane rating. I know these engines run at 10.3;1 instead of the US spec 9.5:1. Does anyone have any experience with this?
BTW, I paid $6K for the engine, wiring harness DME, etc.... Cheaper than doing my own rebuild. If the car runs OK on 93 US Octane, then it will have more HP (231) than stock! :-)

My experience with 2.7 and 3.2 liter euro spec engines is that they run just fine on US premium fuel. I typically use Sunoco 93 octance and have never had fuel related problems.
Sounds like you got a good deal. Hope the quoted mileage is correct.
