Ok. I may sound stupid for asking this, but I'm new at the whole Porsche thing. I have a '69 911T, but I dont think the engine thats in there is the original one. Is there a way to tell by the engine number? From what I've read is that the 911T didn't have fuel injection, it was just the E and the S models. Is that right? Mine is fuel injection. Another big clue is that it says " 911S/911E " on the top
Is there a difference in HP in the different models, and if so, how much?
I doesn't even run at the moment, but I want to know about it when I go looking for parts.
The numbers I found were:
901106101 5R (located on the top) and
*6290147* which is the engine number I believe. I'm not sure what the other one is.
Anyway...I have a million other questions, but Thats enough for now.

According to "Original Porsche 911," S model engine numbers started with 6390XXX, E model engine numbers started with 6190XXX (except 6298XX for Es with Sportomatic), and T models began with 6198XXX (USA Sportomatic), 6195XXX (USA Coupe), 6193XXX (ROW Sporto), or 6190XXX (ROW Coupe, Karmann Coupe, Targa).
So, accorging to that, your engine (6290147) isn't a 1969 engine at all. If that number is correct, it was the 147th engine made for a 1979 US (but not California) 3.0 liter SC engine. This engine would be distinguished from a 1969 engine by having an aluminum crankcase. The SC engine has an 11-blade fan, and puts out 180 hp.
If I'm correct, you have a stronger engine than the 2-liter 1969 model (110 hp). It's a fairly common swap, and the SC motor is very durable, although it's not easy to extract much additional power from it.
What is the shift pattern on your transaxle? The 1969 (901 transaxle) would have a dog leg first, and then 2nd up, and 3rd down. But if you've been swapped up to a 915, it's a more tradional H pattern with 5th and reverse off to the right.
If I've got these numbers wrong, though, I hope someone will point it out. I'd hate to tell you that you've got an extra liter of displacement if it's not true.
Oh, and here's a thread you might be interested in. It's about the 69 models, from a different bulletin board.
