I paid 40K for this, not a great deal, nor do I think I over paid (maybe a lil if I was an investor) It's not stock and so I don't feel bad violating it. Which is also what I wanted... no plans to sell ever.

Default My 78 SC value?

Just to start off I entered the Porsche world in 2009 when I my first Porsche, a 3.8 speed yellow 993 Turbo I had all the older BMW M cars, and decided I needed a change. Anyway in 2014 I came across a 1978 911 SC with 53k miles all original except s professional repaint with all new seals

1978 911 SC 55k miles
everywhere. The original owner ( german engineer) was in his eighties and goining blind, so the car had many scratches
and hence the repaint. Other than that the car is original and comes with all original keys ( even the one for the antenna)
tool kit, books, original radio, coco mats. extra OEM parts all required upgrades ie tensioners, head bolts and blow off valve. Not sure what's optional on the car, but it has A/C sort of, sunroof, passenger mirror, 16" Fuchs, fog lights 915 works great, no smoke on start up, and starts with 1/4 turn. Only upgrades I've done to the SC is 930 tie rods and Bridgestone Re71R tires. I love the car, no rattles, squeaks and just a joy to drive. When I do take it out to car events, someone always approaches me about buying the car and I get fair offers, but not what I think the car is worth, which is in the $40ish range. I'm I being unreasonable?

Clean SC's (all records, lower miles, etc) are going for 50k+

I personally looked at several that were $55K to $67K in PERFECT condition and very low miles.

Iceman thanks for the info. I'm a bit surprised the prices for a nice SC is that high. Not that long ago a nice SC could be had for under $20k Glad I've held out, and on the down side if I did let it go I think it would take some hunting to find another one as nice. I do like that the 78 has the chrome trim. I'm assuming the real top dollar SC's are the ones with original paint. Mine was very well done, and I'm just not sure it hurts the value of the car. On a side note I have the rear quarter panel black stone guards in a box. Not sure the 1978 SC came with them on from the factory

My $0.02 from looking here in Canada is there is a lot of mangled SCs. Really poor examples, not well maintained. To find a nice SC is hard (at least here).

I think it's because they were less expensive not that long ago that people didn't seem to care for them.

I lived in the Toronto area until 1997 and the Canadian winters can be brutal on cars especially with the road salt, and you are correct finding a nice clean classic car in Canada can be a chore. I've done a little hunting up in Canada for a classic Porsche, because of the exchange rate, but prices are very strong

Yup my 78 has chrome trim too and was repainted many years ago. Personally i don't think it detracts much value. These cars are 40+ years old now.
I dont run the shark find either.
