Default 87 911 3.2 help!

Hi All,

I'm driving my 87 911 from Nova Scotia to Toronto tomorrow. It has been working extremely well up until last night! (Naturally). Turns over fine, started no problem after a winter storage. Has a new battery. I've put about 50k on it in the past 3 days with 0 issue.

So here is what happens: key in, turns over fine but does not fire. It began to shutter last night while turning it off. It currently no longer starts on the first turn. Sometimes it will fire after the 10th try. I'
Sure I can hear the fuel pump working while it tries to start.

Any thoughts? I've replaced the DME relay before, possible return issue? Car had a new ignition and starter put in last year.

supposed to leave tomorrow AM so the goal is to sort this out. Thank you for any help.

just to clarify it's a 1987 911 cab, 3.2.

UPDATE: got the car to start. However very random. If I move the seat all the way forward it starts sometimes. Possible poor connection? Thoughts?

Some of the "could be"s include:
-Bad DME solder joints or connections
-Damn crank and position sensors
-Some other stupid electrical connection.
-DME relay

Start with basics. Check for a spark, check for fuel. I'm surprised you can hear the fuel pump over the sound of it cranking.

Seat-movement might signal a wiring or ground issue in/around the computer under the driver's seat.

Thank you guys for the response!

no.radar, have it at our dealership now. Turns out that's exactly what it is, simply ground issue. All good now!

Thanks again!

Glad to help. And since my mechanical knowledge is pretty much lacking overall, you're lucky you caught me on a good day!

Drive safely heading north.
