I'd suggest it is an electrical fault if you cannot hear the antenna motor whirring away. Check the wiring connectors inside the wheel arch - they're exposed and vulnerable to anything flicked up by the tyre.
If the motor is audible, then the same happened to me, Leo.
I removed and dismantled the antenna to find that the nylon helical whip had broken and come away from its captive housing. I attempted to repair it (for the challenge) but I only achieved a partial erection (huh? wad I say?)
So I gave up, deflated and purchased a new German make replacement @ $150.00 Aus, through my local Porsche guru. I was advised that they're not worth repairing.
