993 battery replacement question
A new user here, and hopefully my question is an easy one for seasoned Porsche owners. I have a 1998 C4S (~10K miles) that I rarely drive, though I do keep it plugged into a trickle charger most of the time. It's finally time to replace the battery and although I've not contacted the local Porsche dealership yet, the AutoZone battery that has been in the car for the last several years seemed to work well so I was going to go with that one again. The issue now is that the new battery recommended for this model no longer has the vacuum port on the side of the battery, as they did when I last replaced the factory battery with a Duralast. Do I need to find a battery (probably through a Porsche dealership) with a vacuum port or can I leave the vacuum hose unattached? If the vacuum hose is unattached will it cause a dash light to come on to indicate a problem with the vacuum or cause any other mechanical issue, etc... Just looking for advice and info, and all answers appreciated.

Just buy a new proper battery from any of the many choices, to include; Walmart, Pep Boys, Sears, AutoZone, Battery Plus, or Interstate. Just to name a few.
The newer AGM batteries do not require a vent tube. FYI.
Stick with a simple lead acid replacement.

Thank you for the information and the correction. I clearly need to spend more time with this car. It is indeed a 993 and I now know that it is a vent, rather than vacuum tube. I'll correct the heading and find a battery to get this C4S warmed up. Thank you, again.

I suggest the 993 forum! And the tube is, as stated, not a vaccum tube but just a simple ventilation tube and not connected to any eletronics at all!

Hi,
We are a new Forum Sponsor, Antigravity Batteries, and if you are ever interested in a Lightweight Lithium-Ion Battery check us out. We make Lithium-Ion Batteries for Cars as an Alternative to Lead/Acid. They are about 70% lighter than lead acid, so our battery weighs only 11.5 pounds, compared the the 45 lbs of most the stock Porsche Batteries, but they also has a feature called our RE-START feature which won't allow you to ever be stranded with a dead battery. The battery puts itself to sleep before going completely dead, but saves enough reserve energy to start the car.
