Default Engine decklid strut...

OK, so mine has lasted for many years, so now it's time for what may be a dumb question: is there anything new here? Any improvements in the gas struts that hold up the engine decklid?
BTW, mine is a stock SC decklid, but with an aftermarket FG tail. Should I just replace with the Pelican 2-strut kit or is there anything better? Thanks, guys!

I believe there is an option for deck lids with spoilers. I have used those in the past. Also remember, the struts don't work as well during the cold weather.

I have a mechanical prop purchased from some guy on Pelican. It automatically locks into place when open and you pull a little **** to release it.

At least on my '85 ...
As already built into the car, the "option" for a decklid with a spoiler is to have a second strut. Without a spoiler, there will be one decklid strut. With a spoiler, there will be a strut on both sides.

On my car, the one strut does not need to work too hard since I removed the AC condenser along with the rest of the AC system.

Edward, we have two 911SCs, and use on our Whale Tails, with OEM A/C condenser and hoses, one (1) Weltmeister High Pressure Rear Deck Lid Shock (strut) [Part No. 239804], which uses the OEM clovis pins and clips. A single Weltmeister strut on a OEM Whale Tail is good for about fours years. The cost is $20.99 from Eckler's in Titusville, FL, unless you catch a sale, which can put the price at $16.66 plus shipping. We do have not financial interest in Eckler's; we are just customers. A number of years ago, Eckler's purchased Automotion Parts (CA), which marketed Weltmeister struts for years.

The Weltmeister strut is very easy to install, as one of the two strut mounting points screws off, which permits you to install just the separated mounting point of the strut - with the clovis pin and clip, on the rear of the engine compartment U mount, and screw the rest of the strut on to that rear mounting point so as to secure the front of the strut on the (Whale Tail) rear deck lid, using the second clovis pin and clip. Hope this information helps you in your decision. Type 2
